We are very proud of our coaching staff.  They are dedicated to giving each swimmer the skills that will help them compete well not only in swimming but in life.

 

Al Rose, Head Coach

Coaching:  Over the past 48 years of coaching, Al Rose has produced hundreds of outstanding swimmers:  National Age Group top-10 and record setters, Middle School Champions, City and WPIAL Champions and record setters, Prep-School Champions and record setters, State High School Champions and record setters, Junior National Champions and record setters, Senior National Finalists, Olympic Trial Qualifiers, Maccabia Team Members and Champions, National Junior Team Member, Olympic Team Member

Hundreds of graduation seniors from the Jewish Community Center Sailfish Swimming Team have been offered and accepted scholarships to major Universities and Colleges such as Pitt, Penn State, Harvard, Yale, Brown, Texas A&M, Texas, Michigan, Michigan State, USA Naval Academy, and Stanford just to name a few.

The Dapper Dan Association of Pittsburgh honored Al in January of 1982, and in March of 1991, he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Swimming Hall of Fame at the Natatorium at Penn State University, State College, PA. He is rated as a Level V Coach, the highest level attainable from the American Swim Coaches Association.

SwimmingAl Rose has lived his entire life in the Pittsburgh area.  He was City Champion in the 100 breaststroke and 150 IM in his sophomore, junior and senior years of High School and second in those events in the state his sophomore year. At  Westminster College  he was Conference Champion both his freshman and sophomore years. Al was also a member of the 200 meter Medley Relay Junior National Champions.

In recent years, Al has returned to competition as a Master Swimmer. He placed in the top 3 in National Y Master Championships and was a member of the record breaking relay team

 

John Lynch, Assistant Head Coach

John has been coaching swimming since 1982  He has been Head Coach at Greater Latrobe High School, Boys Swim Team, as well as a Volunteer Assistant with that team.  He then served as    Assistant Coach at Woodland Hills Aquatic Team.  John joined the staff of the JCC Sailfish as  Assistant Coach in 1990 and is now Assistant Head Coach of our team.

John also has served as:  AMS Zone Team Coach - 1992-1994, AMS Age Group Committee Member - 1998-99 and AMS Age Group Committee Chairman - 1999 to present. 

Robert W Gallagher, Assistant Coach

Rob has trained under the tutelage of Al Rose since he was 11 years old (over 13 years ago).  He graduated from Steel Valley High School in 1997.  Rob continued his training in college at Carnegie Mellon University.  There, under the staff of David Belowich, he trained and competed in 50 to 500 freestyle events and the 200 and 400 IM.  He graduated from CMU with a Material Science and Engineering Degree in 2001.  After taking some time off, he took a position at US Steel in the Sheet Technology Department in June of 2002.  A few months later,  he started training and coaching at the Jewish Community Center in Squirrel Hill.  Rob primarily works with the Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania Groups.

Mike Monyok ,  Assistant Coach, US and PA Groups. 

Mike is a CMU graduate and swimmer as well as a  former Sailfish swimmer.

Ross Lannan ,  Head Coach Allegheny Group.

Ross is a former Pitt swimmer. 

Mary Beth Kish  Aquatic Director and Squirrel Hill Team Supervisor.  

Matt  Proskin    Strength and Core Training Supervisor.

Matt is a Certified strength and conditioning coach.  He has a Masters degree in Movement Science with a specialization in Exercise Science.
